80% of Your Day Will Be the Same as Yesterday

Research suggests that around 80% of what we do each day is habitual, and as much as 95% of our thoughts are driven by the subconscious mind. If those numbers are semi-accurate, they reveal something that you may already have been feeling. Most of our daily lives are not being consciously chosen in the moment. They are being guided by patterns, beliefs, and stories that have been quietly shaping us for years.

This is why behaviour change, on its own, can feel like such hard work.

We decide we are going to become more confident, communicate better, set stronger boundaries, or grow our business. We focus on changing what we do, yet underneath those new behaviours, the same subconscious patterns are still operating. Eventually, the old way of thinking pulls us back towards what feels familiar and safe.

It is not because we lack discipline. It is because we have only addressed a small part of the system.

Many of us have never been taught what it truly means to be human. We have been taught strategies, habits, and productivity, but very little about the subconscious stories that drive them. Stories such as, "I need to prove my worth," "Success requires sacrifice," or "If I disappoint people, I won't belong."

The challenge is that we rarely stop to question whether these stories are actually true. Instead, we live as though they are facts. This is why I believe lasting change requires more than changing behaviour. It requires becoming curious about what sits beneath it.

If you are struggling to attract clients, for example, the answer may include refining your strategy. But it is also worth asking what thoughts accompany every conversation. Do you believe your work is valuable? Are you afraid of being visible? Do you worry about being judged if you succeed?

The strategy matters. But so does the person implementing it. You matter. And changing who you believe yourself to be changes an intrinsic part of this equation.

We are an interconnected system. Our thoughts influence our emotions. Our emotions shape our energy. Our energy influences how we show up, the decisions we make, and the actions we take. Nothing happens in isolation.

This is why sustainable growth is never just about doing more.

It begins with awareness.

Start noticing the patterns that repeat in your life. Listen to the language you use when you talk about yourself. Pay attention to the moments where you automatically assume the worst or dismiss your own potential.

Then get curious and explore how you came to believe something like this.  Ask:

  1. Where did this story come from?

  2. Is it actually true?

  3. Who would I be without believing it?

Those questions create space between you and the pattern. In that space, choice becomes possible.

Real transformation does not happen because you force yourself to behave differently for a few weeks. It happens because you understand yourself more deeply. You challenge the stories that no longer serve you, expand what feels safe, and consciously choose a new way of leading, living, and responding.

Your subconscious may have written the first chapters of your story. But it does not have to write the ending.

If you’re looking for a circuit breaker to interrupt the subconscious patterns that have controlled so much of your day-to-day life, then I highly recommend the Rhythm Reset. Feel free to ask me questions about it or find more information here.
